Delta Dental of Kentucky: Benefit Modification

Attention Kentucky Brokers: Delta Dental of Kentucky will be implementing a minor benefit change regarding Full Series X-rays and Panoramic X-rays effective July 1, 2015.

The frequency limitation on Full Series X-rays and Panoramic X-rays is changing from 1 in 36 months to 1 in 60 months.  This change allows us to align ourselves with the recommended guidelines of the ADA and FDA that promote limiting patients exposure to radiation and have also become the industry standard.

Please note that the frequency limitation on Bitewing X-rays (1 in 12 months) and Periapical X-rays (as needed) is remaining unchanged as these x-rays are necessary for proper diagnosis of dental caries between the teeth, changes in bone caused by gum disease, problems below the gums such as tooth root infections, various pathologies, or trauma and also abscesses, cysts or other problems.

We must continually tweak our benefits as the dental needs of our members change with new science, better practices, and time. This change is minor, but is necessary in order to adhere to the industry standard.

The linked letter below will be sent to your fully insured groups, 500 or less enrolled, that are currently covered by us informing them of the change. Your groups that have over 500 enrolled or are currently ASO will be contacted by their Delta Dental Representative and given the option of whether they would like to make this change or not.
