Executive Order Instructs Changes to Affordable Care Act
The Trump Administration has revealed immediate adjustments to regulations of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) while it is in the process of changing the entire healthcare law. Whether the law will be modified or repealed is still to be determined. They also desire to give health departments at the state level more authority in regulating their own health care market. They’ve asked federal agencies to be more flexible with state healthcare authorities.
On January 20, President Trump signed an executive order to instruct federal agencies to waive, defer, and grant exemptions to provisions and requirements within the ACA. The purpose of the executive order was to limit fiscal or regulatory burdens on healthcare recipients and stakeholders. During this process, federal agencies may even abstain from enforcing certain provisions of the law.
At this point, President Trump’s executive order does not impact plans, coverage, or benefits for members of carriers such as Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Members are encouraged to stay connected with their carriers to receive updates on any changes that may arise in the future.
